Abstract

1,169,840. Pipe closures and joints; jointmaking packing. CARL-ZEISS-STIFTUNG, [trading as JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN.]. 14 June, 1968 [19 June, 1967], No. 28553/68. Headings F2B, F2G and F2P. In packing for connecting or closing pipes 1 of brittle material, e.g. glass, ceramics or quartz, and comprising a resilient 0-ring 3 sandwiched between radially inner and outer metal rings 4, 5, the outer ring 5 is of L- or T-section. The axially extending flange of the outer ring 5 acts to centre the packing between the pipes. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), in which a pipe (1) is closed off by a steel plate (6), the outer metal ring (7) is of L-section.
