Abstract

1,169,431. Fluid-pressure actuated switches. PATINVEST PATENTUND INVESTMENT A.G. 1 Feb., 1967 [8 Feb., 1966; 15 Feb., 1966], No. 4967/67. Heading H1N. In a pressure controlled snap-action switch in which a contact spring 9, Fig. 2, is moved between fixed and adjustable contacts 11, 12 by a snap spring 13 attached to a pressureactuated lever 20 acting against a pressure adjusting spring 6, a variable compensating torque is applied to the lever 20 by an additional spring 16 acting in opposition to the spring 6. The arrangement is such that low spring resistance is offered to the lever 20 at the lower end of the pressure range to give an adequate range of movement between the lowest settable change point and the bottom rechange point. This enables a stronger spring 6 to be used whereby a high-pressure range of settings by nut 8 is obtained. In the example a leaf spring 16 acts under compression between the lever 20 and an adjustable pivot point 17 on the casing 32. As the pressure increases and the arm 20 moves upwards the compression on the spring 16 gradually reduces while a moment arm about the effective pivot of the arm 20 increases giving at first a progressively increasing torque followed by a progressively reducing torque assisting the movement of the lever 20. In the arrangement described, the diaphragm 1 actuates three independent switches through tappets 4 attached to a flexible diaphragm plate 3 and loosely engaging in separate levers 20 to permit tilting of the diaphragm when actuating switches set different pressures. The switch cover 7 is engaged by a press fit under a flexible projecting edge 31 of the main housing wall 30.
