Abstract
1,169,201. Movements of vehicles utilizing driving alternators. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 19 Jan., 1967 [17 Feb., 1966], No. 7030/66. Heading B7J. [Also in Division H2] The lights of a vehicle used in an inflammable atmosphere are supplied from an alternator having a permanent magnet rotor 1 co-operating with a stator 11 and enclosed within a flameproof casing, the rotor 1 being driven from a rotatable part of the vehicle through a clutch 31 and a step-up gear-box 27. The alternator housing comprises a body 23 and plate 25 which are constructed in accordance with B.S.S. 229 and has the stator windings 13 connected directly to the lights through armoured cable 21. The clutch is preferably a dog clutch and comprises an axially slidable member 37 keyed to gear-box input shaft 29 and normally engaged with sprocket 33 by the action of spring 41. The clutch is disengaged by lever 47 operated manually or automatically.
