Abstract

[Also in Division F2] The flow of fluid to be added to a main stream is regulated to maintain a required proportion, by apparatus wherein a valve in the main stream leading to the suction side of a pump, is actuated by means responsive to and arranged to stabilise the pressure prevailing on the suction side of the pump, the valve being mechanically coupled to means for regulating the supply of additive. As shown, a fire pump I draws water through valve 4 and pipe 2 from a tank 3. The valve is controlled by a pneumatic servomotor 5 powered from an air reservoir 6 or from a vacuum braking system of a vehicle. The servomotor is controlled by a valve 7 responsive to the pressure at the inlet of the pump. A linkage 13 connects the valve 4 to a control valve 8 which regulates a hydraulic pumpmotor transmission 9, 10. Motor 10 drives a foam liquid additive pump 11 which draws from a tank 12 and delivers into the pipe 2.
