Abstract
1,169,043. Zinc electro-plating baths. COWLES CHEMICAL CO. Sept.19, 1966, No.41790/66. Heading C7B. An aqueous alkaline zinc cyanide plating solution contains zinc ions and at least one brightener having the formula where R is a monovalent or divalent substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon radical having 1-4 carbon atoms, substituents being selected from the group -NH 2 , -OH, and -COOR 1 , where R 1 is H, NH 4 or an alkali metal radical; M is NH 4 , CH 3 NH 3 , (CH 3 ) 2 NH 2 , Na, K, Ca, Zn, Mg, Cd, Ni, Fe, Co, Mo, Mn and n is equal to the valance of M. Examples are given of thiuram disulphides and thiocarbamates having the above formula. The electrolyte may also contain polyvinyl alcohol and/or a reaction product formed by reacting substantially equimolar quantities of at least one compound having the nucleus with a compound having the formula where R is a radical selected from hydrogen, monovalent and divalent saturated substituted and unsubstituted radicals having 1 to 4 carbon atoms in which the substituents may be -NH 2 , or -OH radicals, phenyl radicals, or monovalent or divalent substituted or unsubstituted alicyclic radicals containing 5 or 6 carbon atoms i the ring and in which the substituents may be -CH 3 , -NH 2 , or -OH radicals or amino phenyl radicals. Examples of substances (a) include 2-thiohydantoin and its 1- acetyl, 1- methyl, 5- furfural, 5- benzal, or 5-(2<SP>1</SP> hydroxylbenzal) derivatives; 2- thiobarbituric acid and its 1- acetyl, 1- benzoyl or 1, 5- diacetyl derivatives; 2- thiopyrrolidone -4; 3- thio -1, 2, 4- oxadiazolidinone-5 and the corresponding thiadiazolidinone and triazolidinone compounds; 2- thio -1, 3- diazolidinone -4; 2- thioperhydroazin -6- one and the corresponding 1, 4- diazinone compound Examples of substances (b) include ammonia, isopropylamine, ethanolamine, piperazine, aniline, p-aminophenyl -4- methylcyclohexylamine, phenylcyclohexanolamine and p-aminophenyl-3 -aminocyclopentylamine. E.g. the reaction product may be produced by the reaction of 2-thiohydantoin with ethanolamine.
