Abstract
1,168,806. Encoding systems. KOKUSAI DENSHIN DENWA K.K. 31 Oct., 1966 [1 Nov., 1965], No. 48726/66. Heading G4H. A sequence of analogue input signals at 10 and 21 (Fig. 1) are converted to parallel signals by a converter 1 the outputs 12 from which are fed to an orthogonal transformer 2. The transformer 2 preferably performs a Hadamard transformation so that the first output 13 is proportional to the average values of the input to the transformer 2, the levels of the other outputs being considerably lower so that in a p.c.m. coder 3 the first output is converted using more bits than the remaining signals. The analogue input signals may be regenerated by converting the p.c.m. signals to analogue form and applying them to an orthogonal transformer which performs the inverse operation of transformer 2. Suitable equations for the transformation are given.
