Troughing roller assemblies 3 have hooks 5 which are located longitudinally on rope side supports 1 by collars 7 formed on gripping devices which are in the form of sleeves 6. Each sleeve acts as a combined gripping device and clamp and is preferably of an elastomeric material or of rubber. Alternatively, it may be of metal and may be secured by its inherent elasticity. This effect may be increased by a roughened surface on the bore of the sleeve. Alternatively or in addition, the sleeve may be clamped to the rope by bolts 9. In Fig. 6, a sleeve has two parts 12, 12 with grooves 13 for receiving flat portions of a roller assembly hook 17 which, due to the weight of the assembly, causes the sleeve parts 12 to grip the rope 1. Knurling 16 improves this grip. In Fig. 10, split rings 15 of an elastomeric material or of rubber are provided between the sleeve 6 and the rope 1.
