1,168,129. Making electrical resistance wire. INTERNATIONAL NICKEL Ltd. 22 July, 1968 [29 Sept., 1967], No. 44519/67. Addition to 1,150,356. Heading B3A. [Also in Division C7] An article for use at temperatures above 900‹ C. is formed from an alloy body consisting of two of Ir, Ru, Mo and W, or of two of these metals with Au and/or Pd with or without up to 5% of other metals, and an oxidation-resistant coating of Au and/or Pd with or without two of Ir, Ru, Mo and W, the composition of the body being at or within a radius of 5% of one end N and the composition of the coating being at or within a radius of 5% of the other end P of a projected tie-line drawn on a pseudoternary equilibrium diagram for the given elevated temperature wherein the apices represent two of the metals Ir, Ru, Mo and W; Au; and Pd. For example, a wire of 95% Ir, 5% W may be protected by an alloy coating of 60% Pd, 40% Au (shown at N and P, respectively, as two phases of the alloy given by the point M: 28À5% Ir, 1À5% W, 28% Au and 42% Pd) by sheathing a swaged rod of the Ir-W alloy in a Pd-Au tube and hot-drawing. An alloy of 95% Mo, 5% Ru may be protected by the same alloy coating applied as a flakepaste as described in Specification 952,493. Specification 974,057 is also referred to.
