A coupling body 1 includes an externally tapered tubular part 1a of yieldable material into which is insertable a pipe 6 to abut a stop surface 4, and a sleeve 2 of relatively rigid material is tapered internally to the same angle as that of the part 1a but is of a smaller cross-section, the body and sleeve having respectively external projections 1, 7 which are engageable by the jaws of a tool operable to move the sleeve axially over the part 1a to deform that part to a reduced cross-section; the part la has a projection 8 which is engaged by the end of the sleeve to retain the latter in position. The interior surface of the tubular parts 1a, 1b may be provided with longitudinally extending ribs or grooves.
