Abstract

1,167,606. Abrasive tools. O. A. TUSTIN, and E. R. L. BOWDEN. 8 May, 1968 [9 Feb., 1967], No. 6283/67. Heading B3D. A saw blade or milling disc for cutting minerals, such as coal or granite, is formed on its periphery with diamond impregnated segments 12 and has on each face a plurality of diamond impregnated segments 13 arranged so as, in use, to restore the cutting edges of the blade to the intended straight line after the disc has deviated. The segments are mounted on a disc of mild steel and the segment 13 extends a less distance from the face of the disc than do the segments 12. In use, if the saw blade is deflected from its intended line and begins to labour, an ammeter detects the increase in load on the blade to actuate a solenoid in the hydraulic circuit for feeding the blade so as to stop the feed to permit the segments 13 to side cut the blade back to its intended cutting line.
