Abstract
1,167,302. Vehicle control. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 29 Dec., 1966 [7 Jan., 1966], No. 850/66. Heading B7N. In a control system for a vehicle movable along a predetermined track, a number of columns of permanent magnets disposed in coded array co-operate with magnetically operated and manually operated switches to control the vehicle. The magnets may be on the vehicle and the switches on the track or vice-versa. The magnet columns are made up in box HB using a 5-digit, binary code, binary " 1 " being signalled by the presence of magnets in a column and binary " 0 " by their absence. A number of magnets are used in each column to provide a uniform field and the polarity of the magnets alternates from column to column. The magnet box HB is set up to signal 11101. The pick-up unit PU includes reed switches R1-R6 disposed in positions corresponding to the columns each of which is held in one switch position by an associated magnet which has a polarity opposed to that of the magnets (when present) in the corresponding column and can be switched to its opposite position when the field from its associated magnet is cancelled by the column magnets. The switches are connected, Fig. 2, in a circuit with manually operated switches S1-S5, which set the code number in the pick-up unit i.e. in one position for binary " 1 " and the opposite for binary " 0." When the code numbers in the box and pickup units correspond and when the mid-part of the box is over the pick-up position so that the magnets in column 6 switch over reed switch R6, a circuit is completed to e.g. unloading apparatus.
