Abstract
1,167,198. Vacuum switches. LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGS - G.m.b.H. 28 Dec., 1966, No. 57972/66. Heading H1N. The envelope of a vacuum switch is assembled from a plurality of units consisting of tubular insulating members 1A, 1B each having welded thereto an annular metal member 3B, 3C formed with an outwardly-extending flange, the flanges of adjacent units being welded together, 5, at their periphery. The ends of the envelope may comprise flat metal plates 7, 15 welded to similar metal members 3A, 3D on the other ends of the tubular members 1A, 1B or alternatively (Fig. 2, not shown) may comprise dished metal plates (107), (115) welded directly to the ends of the tubular members (101A, 101B) and strengthened by cast members (114, 121). A metal annulus 27 welded to the metal member 3B supports a metal shield 25 while end-plates 7, 15 carry further shields 29, 31 overlapping shield 25 but spaced from it. The envelope may be assembled from more than two units. The insulating members 1A, 1B are of glass or ceramic such as alumina or steatite and if they are ceramic the metal members 3A, 3B, 3C, 3D- may be soldered to them.
