Abstract

1,166,676. Carry-cot convertible into a case. M. GARLICK. 1 Nov., 1966 [4 Nov., 1965; 4 March, 1966], No. 48989/66. Heading A4G. [Also in Divisions A5 and B7] A carry-cot comprises a base to which is connected end walls 26 and side walls 15, the base and the side walls being provided with an articulation whereby the cot may be folded upon itself and at least part of the side walls being hinged to the base so that this part may fold over the base. As shown, the base and rigid side wall parts 15 of the cot are contained within a two-layered cover 18 by which the side walls are hinged to the base. The side wall parts are divided at 16 to provide an articulation and are held in the cover 18 by glueing or by stitching 25. The end walls (14) are not contained within the two layers of the cover 18 but are connected to the base by fabric hinges (27) so that they may be folded inside the cot when it is collapsed. The cot is provided with struts 32 so support a canopy 33, with loops 28 for carrying the cot when it is collapsed, and with straps 29 for securing the cot in its collapsed state. The outer layer 20 of the cover lying beneath the base is not secured to the base at the end edges 21 and provides stowage compartments (31) when the cot is collapsed (see Fig. 4, not shown). An alternative embodiment (Figs. 5-7, not shown) able to be collapsed to form a box-like container is formed with two lines of articulation in the base and the side walls are each in three parts (37, 38, 37) to be secured together with press studs. The central part (38) of each side wall is hinged to the base and the remaining parts (37) of the side walls are rigidly joined to the base (34) and to the end walls (40). Loops (43) are provided for carrying the erected cot. A foldable mattress may be provided and the cot may be detachably mounted on a perambulator chassis.
