Abstract
1,166,589. Gramaphones. H. E. BROWNE and E. A. BURFORD. 18 June, 1968, No. 29031/68. Addition to 1,136,183. Heading G5B. A stylus and record-centering member 36 are moved into and out of engagement with a record by a single control member 40, the centering member contacting the stylus support during release so that the stylus cannot engage the record until the record is engaged by the centering member. The control member 40 is slidably attached to a plate 25 pivoted at 26 to the apparatus 11 and carrying a recordcentering stub 36. A tone arm/sound box assembly 28, 32 is pivoted at 29 to a bracket 27 also pivoted at 26 and biased downwardly by a spring 30<SP>1</SP>. The plate 25 is arranged immediately beneath the bracket 27 so that raising the control member 40 disengages both the stylus (not visible) and centering stub 36 from the record whereas pushing the member 40 inwards rotates the bracket 27 only, whereby a compression/torsion spring 30, which also provides tracking pressure, returns the stylus to the start position. The control member 40 is held in its raised position by a spring catch 46 and in its inner position by a latch, not shown. The turntable is belt-driven 17 from a batterypowered motor 14 energized via contacts 33, 34 when the stylus is lowered, and de-energized at the end of the record when the sound box breaks contacts 44, 45.
