Abstract
1,165,999. Shoe sole pressing machine. AUTO-SOLER CO. 22 Feb., 1967 [21 Nov., 1966], No. 8555/67. Heading A3B. An apparatus for pressing a sole-piece P to a welt-type shoe S to secure them by pressure sensitive adhesive comprises a support 12 with a pressing surface 74 and a presser element 76 slidably mounted in in the support and having a pressing surface 78. The element has a central stud 98 which extends into the support bore 84 and is retained therein by a set screw 96. The apparatus is preferably mounted on a shoe repair machine described in U.S.A. Specification 3,241,225 which normally makes fasteners from wire but has a cover 22 over the fastener ejector during its use with the .pressing .apparatus. The cover 22 sabuts the upper end of the presser element when the support 12 is raised to move the surfaces together against spring bias. The support is mounted on a pin 36 reciprocated vertically through linkage from a crank (28), Fig. 2 (not shown). The crank is driven from an electric motor through a clutch operated by a foot pedal. When the pedal is depressed the crank is continuously rotated to reciprocate the support relative to the presser element. In operation the support is raised by lifting a flange 100 on the support manually until the presser element abuts the cover. A latch mechanism (44) holds the pin 36 in this raised position. The supporting surface 78 of the presser element is formed on an annular member 88 freely rotatable on a stud 98 so that the welt of the shoe can be moved between the surfaces during the pressing.
