1,165,808. Feeding sheets. ADDRESSOGRAPH MULTIGRAPH CORP. 13 July, 1967 [29 July, 1966], No. 32400/67. Heading B8R. Sheets are fed simultaneously from at least two stacks S1, S2 to a printing mechanism by an apparatus comprising suction separators 43, 46, means detecting the failure of the feeding of any sheet, and sheet diverting means 110 controlled by the detecting means for diverting the remaining sheet, or sheets, to avoid the feeding thereof to the printing mechanism. Separators.-Suction separators 43, 43 are mounted on bar 48 which rocks about shaft 54. Lever 120 disconnects the suction supplied to the separators by pump 36, when this lever strikes plate 122, thus causing the sheet to be released to feed rollers 30, 32 (34, Fig. 3). Sheet forwarders.-Sheets pass from feed rollers 30, 32 to conveyer tapes 70. Faulty feed controls.-The failure of the separators to grip any sheet causes a pressure increase in line 38. This is detected by a device 72, containing a flexible diaphragm which then operates a control switch 100 to cause deflector gate 110 to be operated thus diverting any sheet fed during the cycle to bin 112. Any operation of the deflector gate when the pressure in line 38 drops due to the release of correctly fed sheets to rollers 30, 32, is prevented by switch 107 which disables the deflector mechanism except during an actual separation.
