Polyurethane elastomers having a Shore A hardness of 45 to 55 are prepared by reacting (1) 4,41-diphenylmethane diisocyanate with (2) 0.2 mol. to 0.4 mol. per mol. of (1) of a linear hydroxyl terminated polyethylene adipate of M.W. 1500 to 2500 and (3) a polyester composition present in an amount such that the overall NCO to OH ratio is 1: 1 to 1À2: 1 and comprising (A) 70 to 100% by weight of a linear hydroxyl terminated polyester which is a polyethylene-alkylene adipate having a M.W. 1500 to 2500 and an acid number of not more than 0.5, which alkylene portions contain 3 to 6 carbon atoms and are the residue remaining after the removal of two hydroxyl groups from a glycol having at least one secondary OH group, the ethylene portions being present in an amount of 60 to 90 mol. per cent and the alkylene portions 10 to 40 mol. per cent; and (B) 0 to 30 weight per cent of a trifunctional polyester having a M.W. of 750 to 1500. The reactants may be all mixed together but the polyethylene adipate is preferred first reacted with the diisocyanate to form a prepolymer which is then reacted with the polyester composition (3). The polyester (A) is suitably a polyethylene-propylene adipate and the polyester (B) a reaction product of adipic acid, 1,4- butanediol and 1,2,6-hexanetriol.
