Abstract

1,165,299. Crystallizing hydrocarbons. INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS. 25 June, 1968 [26 June, 1967], No. 30237/68. Heading C5E. Selective crystallization of a hydrocarbon from a mixture of hydrocarbons is carried out by direct thermal exchange using as cooling liquid a mixture of water, one or more mono-alcohols and one or more poly-alcohols. Particularly suitable is a mixture of 20-40 wt. per cent water, 15-50 wt. per cent methanol and 25-50 wt. per cent ethylene glycol. Countercurrent contact is preferred. Para-xylene may be crystallized from a xylene mixture optionally containing ethyl benzene.
