In a system comprising a plurality of time division highways each serving an individual group of lines, the highways are arranged in groups and positioned so that highways in different groups can be connected through a single inter-highway gate and highways of the same group can only be connected through the two inter-highway gates connecting the two highways with a selected highway in another group.
