Abstract

1,164,949. Method of plating-out bacteria. W.E. BELITHER. Oct.22, 1968 [Aug. 5, 1967], No.36049/67. Heading C6F. In plating-out and spreading bacterial samples on the surface of nutrient agar with a platinum loop &c., a continuous relative rotary movement is imparted between the loop and the surface. Thus, the loop may be drawn radially over the surface of inoculated agar 15 in a Petri dish 14 which is being rotated upon a turntable 10 at between 30 and 100 r.p.m. If only half of the surface is to be employed, the loop is moved through the radial distance 16-18 or 18-17 with reference to a circle 19 inscribed in the upper surface of the turntable.
