Abstract

1,164,523. Polymers from cyanamides. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 20 April, 1967 [23 April, 1966], No. 18182/67. Heading C3R. Polymers are obtained by heating polyfunctional cyanamides of secondary amines with at least catalytically effective amounts of mono- or polyhydroxyl and/or thiol compounds at 50‹ to 250‹ C. A monofunctional cyanamide may be included in a minor proportion. The hydroxyl and/or thiol compounds remain in the polymer and act as plasticizers. In examples polymers are obtained by heating N,N<SP>1</SP>-dicyanopiperazine with 4,4<SP>1 </SP>- dihydroxydiphenyl - dimethylmethane, phenol, 4-tert-butyl-phenol, pchlorophenol, hydroquinonemonomethylether, resorcinol, 1,5 - dihydroxy - naphthalene, phloroglucinol, 4,41 - dihydroxydiphenylsulphone, a novolak resin, di - # - hydroxyethylcyanamide, p - chloro - thiophenol, 2 - mercapto - benzothiazol and 4 - tert. - butyl - thiophenol; and by heating N,N<SP>1</SP> - dicyano - 4,41- di - (N - methyl - amino) - 3,31 - dimethyldiphenylmethane with 4,41 - dihydroxydiphenyl - dimethylmethane; in some examples mixtures of starting materials are used and in others kieselguhr and charcoal are added as fillers.
