1,164,346. Purification of hexamethylenediamine. CELANESE CORP. 28 July, 1967 [11 Aug., 1966], No. 34775/67. Heading C2C. Crude hexamethylenediamine is purified by dissolving the material in a saturated hydrocarbon having 5-12 C atoms, e.g. cyclohexane, or in a mixture of such hydrocarbons, at an elevated temperature, cooling the solution and separating the crystalline product. The hexamethylene diamine is preferably dissolved at a temperature above 40‹ C. and crystallized by cooling to 25‹ C. or below. The preferred starting material is crude hexamethylenediamine produced by the hydrogenation of adiponitrile or by the ammonolysis of 1,6-hexandiol.
