Abstract

1,164,331. Oxazoline polymers. CHEMISCHE WERKE HœLS A.G. 27 Jan., 1967 [29 Jan., 1966], No. 4128/67. Addition to 1,086,572. Heading C3R. Polymers are obtained by polymerizing a mixture of two or more A2-oxazolines of formula where each of R<SP>1</SP> to R<SP>5</SP> are hydrogen atoms or aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic radicals, at least two of R1 to R<SP>5</SP> being hydrogen atoms, with the exception that one of the A2-oxazolines contains as R<SP>1</SP> an alkyl radical having 1 to 17 carbon atoms and one or more chlorine or bromine atoms in the α- position. A cation-active catalyst is used in the polymerization. In examples polymers are obtained from mixtures of 2-methyl-#<SP>2</SP>-oxazoline with 2 - chloromethyl - #<SP>2</SP> - oxazoline, with 2 - (α - chloroethyl) - #<SP>2</SP> - oxazoline and with 2- (α,α - dibromoethyl) - #<SP>2</SP> - oxazoline; 2 - isopropyl #<SP>2</SP> - oxazoline with 2 - chloromethyl #<SP>2</SP> - oxazoline; and with 2 - tribromomethyl #<SP>2</SP> - oxazoline; 2 - ethyl - #<SP>2</SP> - oxazoline with 2- (α - chloroethyl) #<SP>2</SP> - oxazoline, with 2 - tribromomethyl - #<SP>2</SP> oxazoline and with 2- (α,α - dibromoethyl) - #<SP>2</SP> - oxazoline; 2 - npropyl - #<SP>2</SP> - oxazoline with 2 - (α - chloroethyl)- #<SP>2</SP> - oxazoline and with 2 - (α,α - dibromoethyl) - #<SP>2</SP> - oxazoline; and 2 - phenyl - #<SP>2</SP>- oxazoline with 2 - (a - chloroethyl) - #<SP>2</SP>- oxazoline, with 2 - tribromomethyl - #<SP>2</SP>- oxazoline and with 2-(α,α-dibromoethyl)-A2- oxazoline; the catalyst is 1, 4-phenylenebis-(2-oxazolinium) diperchlorate.
