A method of preparing a pesticidal composition comprises dissolving not more than 50% by volume of one or more surfactants in one or more liquid pesticidally active synthetic compounds of the type acting by assimilation by the pest organism and by chemical interference with the metabolism of the pest organism, the surfactant or surfactants and the liquid pesticidally active compound or compounds and the relative proportions thereof being so selected that if an amount between 20 ml and 56 ml of the solution is stirred into 100 litres of water an emulsion is formed containing at least 28% by volume of the pesticidally active compound or compounds in the form of particles having a maximum size of 1 micron. The surfactant may be of the anionic, cationic, or non-ionic type. The pesticidally active compound may be a fungicide, insecticide, herbicide, nematocide or acaricide. The liquid pesticidal compositions may be adsorbed on a solid carrier to form wettable powders or dusts which on contact with water release the liquid pesticide in the form of globules of the specified size. Specified liquid pesticides include dinocap, malathion, ethion, trithion, chlordane, demeton, diazinon, 0,0- dimethyl-o-(2, 2-dichlorovinyl) phosphate, o, o-dimethyl S-[-ethylsulfinyl) ethyl] phosphorothioate, ethyl 4,4'-dichlorobenzilate, 1,2-dibromo-3-chloropropane, a mixture of isomers of 1,3-dichloropropene and 1,2-dichloropropane, and nonyldinitrophenyl butyrate and its liquid isomers. The use of solid pesticides dissolved in liquid pesticides is disclosed, e.g. dimethoate, lindane, DDT, and dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanol may be dissolved in dinocap, malathion, or chlordane`. Chlorfenson may also 'be used in combination with dimethoate and malathion. Sulphur may be used as a carrier in the formulation of the wettable powders and dusts.
