Abstract

1,164,180. Hair dressing composition. ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP. 22 Dec., 1967 [29 Dec., 1966], No. 58510/67. Heading A5B. [Also in Division C3] A composition for use as a hair dressing, e.g. hair spray, contains from 0.1 to 10% by weight of a polymer of a compound of formula:- where R is -CH 3 -C 2 H 5 , -(CH 2 )m -C-O-C n H 2n+, or -(CH 2 ) m -O-C- # # O O C n H 2n+1 where n and m are integers whose sum is at most 6, or -(CH 2 )k CN or -(CH 2 ) k - CH (CH 3 ) 2 ' O where k is 0, 1, 2 or 3, or a polymer obtained by partial hydrolysis of such a polymer containing hydrolysable radicals. The compound may be copolymerized with a compound of formula:- where R' is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or alkenyl radical. The polymers and copolymers contain units of formulae:- In Examples polymers are obtained from 2- decenyl - 2 - oxazoline and 2 methyl - 2 - oxazoline, from 2 - undecyl - 2 - oxazoline and 2 - methyl - 2 - oxazoline, from 2.- methyl - 2 - oxazoline, from 2 - ethyl - 2 - oxazoline and 2 - heptadecyl - 2 - oxazoline, from 2 - methyl - 2 - oxazoline and 2 - heptadecyl - 2 - oxazoline and from 2 - ethyl - 2 - oxazoline; the polymers are dissolved in ethanol and the solutions mixed with trichlorofluoro-methane and dichlorodifluoromethane as propellants for use as hair sprays; other ingredients added to some of the dressings are esters of lanolin alcohol, perfume, polypropylene glycol, propylene glycol and ethylene glycol.
