Abstract
116,409. Taylor, W. H., and Dawson, H. Aug. 16, 1917. Figured fabrics.-Fabrics with a plain ground and a contrasting figure, or vice versa, are woven with a single weft and warps shed by two or more healds and jacquard harness, the warps being so drawn in that the combined actions of the healds and harness may produce a plain weave and, by a change in the harness treading relative to the regular action of the healds, may produce a contrasting weave, no warp remaining up or down for more than two picks. In one arrangement, heald warps a, Fig. 3, and harness warps b are drawn between the reed wires B of the lay A three in a dent, as shown, the drawing-in plan through healds 3 and harness 2 being shown in Fig. 4. The arrangement of the warps is such that a plain weave w, Fig. 5, may at times be produced, while at other times the warps in alternate dents may be shed together to produce the weave p; this shedding is shown in the third, fourth, and fifth dents of Fig. 3 and plain shedding in the other dents, the weft being shown at x. The change from the plain to the other weave may necessitate the floating of a warp over or under two shots of weft as at h and the raising of an extra warp at the edge of the figure as at k. The arrangement of the heald and harness warps may be reversed, and the warps may be drawn-in two in a dent and shed two, four, or five together at the figure parts.
