Abstract

1,164,007. Making bolts; cutting by fusion. W. E. WORLEY. 30 Jan., 1967, No. 4410/67. Headings B3A and B3V. [Also in Division F2] In a method of making the two members 102, 104 of an anchor bolt, the member 102 is made in an assembly line B whilst the member 104 is made in an assembly line A. Bar stock 172 of semicircular cross-section is fed into an uncoiler 174, a leveller 176 and a joggle mill 178 to form the wavy shape of the member 102, a cut off press 180 then cutting the bar to the correct length for the member 102 and forming a straight portion 130. In the assembly line A, flat sheet stock 150 is fed to a cutting device 152 such as a torch, plasma or laser cutting apparatus or a number of co-operating disc-like cutting knives to form strips 154. The strips are then taken up on a number of rolls at a station 156 and a selected roll positioned in alignment with the following uncoiling and levelling station 158 and 160 respectively. A prenotch press 162 forms partial cuts across the strip and a roll form mill 164 shapes the strip into a U-shaped cross-section. A cut-off press 166 cuts the strip at the pre-notched points and an automatic welding station 170 secures a threaded stud 127 to each member 104. An automatic assembly station finally bundles the two members 102, 104 together with tape. Fig. 25 (not shown) illustrates a slightly modified method of making the bolt and includes a die cutting press for cutting the strips transversely from the sheet stock and an orientor for reversing alternate strips to ensure that they are correctly positioned for the following stations.
