[Also in Division A5] A bed sheet, mattress or cushion for conducting electric charges away from the body comprises an electrically insulating layer having a non-filamentary electrically conducting material covering the layer or distributed continuously throughout the layer. A sheet comprises a layer 34 of woven cotton material coated on one side with aluminium 36, or several layers (38) of woven cotton material covered on one side with a laminate of metal foil (48) and a plastics layer 46. In use as a bed sheet, it is either tucked under a mattress or made of square form and laid diagonally on a mattress so that portions of it are lower than the mattress and thus facilitate the discharge to earth of electric charges conducted to the sheet from the person lying on it. A mattress or cushion comprises a foamed elastomer body (52) having a metallic coating or containing metallic particles, vertical passages (64) extending through the body. A mattress cover of non-filamentary aluminised material may be provided on a conventional mattress.
