Abstract

1,163,875. Stabilizing polyolefins. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 5 April. 1968 [10 May, 1967], No. 16454/68. Heading C3P. Normally solid polyolefin compositions comprise a stabilizing amount of a mixture of a nickel dialkyl dithiocarbamate and 2-hydroxy- 4-octyloxybenzophenone, each alkyl group in the dithiocarbamate having 4 to 6 carbon atoms and the weight ratio of dithiocarbamate to benzophenone being 1:1 to 20:1. The polymer may be polyethylene, polypropylene, an ethylene/propylene copolymer or blends thereof with each other or with other polymeric materials, and the compositions may also contain pigments and thermal stabilizers such as phenols and dialkyl thiodipropionates. Examples describe compositions of polyethylene, di-t.-butyl-p-cresol, nickel dibutyl dithiocarbamate and 2-hydroxy-4-octyloxybenzophenone, with and without pigments.
