Abstract
116,384. Dehn, F. B., (National Sanitary Service Co.). July 3, 1917. Plant.-Fat is recovered from waste liquids, such as slaughter-house refuse liquid, by first precipitating the heavy sediment and then passing the liquid thus freed through a tank of known construction wherein a relatively large still body of liquid is maintained above an underlying accelerating current of the same, the fat separating in the still area and the waste being drawn off below. The liquid is passed under pressure through an inlet 23 into a tank 21 and strikes a deflector 29 inclined towards a higher outlet 10, and the heavy sediment falls to the bottom of this tank, the lower part of which is larger than the top. The bottom of this tank slopes downwards and is provided with a drain pipe fitted with a valve 28. In passing into the fat-separating tank 5, the liquid meets a baffle 19 which directs it along the sloping bottom 8 to a channel 13 behind a baffle 14 and to the adjustable, outlet 12. The sides of the tank 5 converge downwardly to accelerate the stream of liquid. The fat separates in the still area between the baffles 19, 14 and escapes by overflow outlets 16. A drain 17 is provided on the tank 5, and a perforated cover 3 permits wash water from the slaughter-house floor to enter the tank 21.
