Abstract

116,346. Woolcock, J. June 7. 1917. Girder floors; reinforced-blockwork floors.-In a floor formed by laying side by side beams composed of a row of grooved blocks and side tension rods, the rods are held in their correct positions, before the grouting is applied in the joints, by transverse spacing members d<1>, Fig. 8, which are bent around the rods and lie in grooves a<3>, Fig. 4, in the ends of the blocks. Adjacent ends d<3> are twisted together between the beams, and in the central portion, the ends embrace also the lower part of an additional tension rod e, Fig. 15, the end portions of which bear on rollers f resting on shoulders a<2>. The rods are tightened by nuts e<3>. A compression rod g is next laid on rollers f<1> and the free ends of the transverse members d<1> are crossed over the rod g. The grouting is applied to embed the rods, the grooves a<4> allowing air to escape from the grooves a<3>. Extra rods h, Fig. 15, may be added, and to increase the floor thickness, battens i', Fig. 17, are placed on each side of the channel and the grouting is carried to the higher level; the rollers are placed also on top of the blocks, and the end slabs bare similarly increased in height.
