Abstract

1,163,357. Cocking device for automatic firearms. RHEINMETALL G.m.b.H. 15 May, 1967 [28 June, 1966], No. 22521/67. Heading F3C. A cocking device for an automatic firearm comprises an hydraulically operable member, for example, a dog 8, which co-operates with the breech block 4 of the firearm as by a dog 6 to move the same in an axial direction. The member 8 is arranged on an actuator 7 which is guided for movement in a direction parallel to the direction of movement of the breech block 4. The actuator 8 is mechanically attached to a piston (13, Figs. 3, 4, 6, not shown) working in a double-acting hydraulic cylinder mounted in side-by-side relation to the actuator in a direction parallel to the axis along which the actuator 7 is guided. In the construction shown the mechanical attachment comprises a pair of sheathed wire cables 17 each passing over a pulley 16 mounted on a lug 14 and one connected to each end of the piston. The lugs 14 which are welded one to each end of a base element 10 which contains the actuator 7 are secured to the cradle 1 of the firearm. The sheathed wire cables pass one through each end of the cylinder and are slidably sealed therein by polished eyes and sealing rings (Fig. 5, not shown). The cables are connected to the piston and actuator 7 by passing the cable ends through centrally apertured screws, providing a soldered nipple on the cable ends and screwing the screws into the piston and actuator (Fig. 6, not shown). The cables are also connected at least to the actuator in a longitudinally adjustable manner. The double-acting cylinder is secured to the base element 10 by a pair of clamps (Fig. 3, not shown).
