Abstract
1,163,058. Bending non-metallic material. TETRA PAK A.B. 16 Oct., 1967 [24 Oct., 1966], No. 46996/67. Heading B6J. [Also in Division B8] A web of material 1, e.g. of stiff paper coated with polyethylene, which is to be fed into a packaging machine, and which has transverse fold lines 2 formed thereon intended to define the corners of the package, is driven along a non-linear path causing it to buckle along the fold lines 2 to facilitate folding in the machine. As shown, the material 1 is fed by two pairs of feed rollers 3, 5 and 4, 6, and between the feed rollers it passes over a series of guide rollers 7 . . . 10 in a path causing the buckling or prefolding along the lines 2. The packages may be produced by first forming the web of material into a tube and then sealing it transversely to close the end of each package. Filling of the package is effected whilst the package is within a former, the inner surfaces of which move relatively to one another to compress the package to shape.
