Abstract

1,163,012. Mechanical plating. MINNESOTA MINING & MFG. CO. June 16, 1966, No.27018/66. Heading C7F. In a mechanical plating process in which the parts to be plated are agitated in a container with plating metal particles, chemical plating promoter and a liquid, and in which at least the quantity of chemical plating promoter and/or the plating metal particles are initially insufficient to produce the required plating, further quantities of these ingredients are continuously or successively added to the container during the process. The additions made during the plating process may be made as individual separate additions or as a compact such as a bar containing the several additions e.g. 2-20 parts citric acid, 1-10 parts polyoxyethylene oleic amide, 0À01-5 parts silicone anti-foam agent, 1-50 parts attapulgite clay. Metal plating particles may also be included in the bar, and the metal particles may be coated with a resin or encapsulated in a plastic capsule. Examples are given of the coating of Cu flash coated steel with Zn.
