Abstract

1,162,930. Discharging particulate material from containers. METALLGESELLSCHAFT A.G. 7 Aug., 1968 [29 Aug., 1967], No. 37737/68. Heading B8A. A discharge pipe 2 fitted to the discharge opening of a container 1, which is under subatmospheric pressure, is provided with a pipe segment 4 having a forwardly inclined parabolic edge and is sealed by a rubber flap 3. The material to be discharged accumulates in the pipe 2 above the flap 3 until the accumulated material lifts the flap from the edge of the discharge pipe 2 at B. A subatmospheric pressure is thereby created in the gap between the pipe 2 and the pipe segment 4 and causes the flap to seal against the pipe segment 4 at the point A. Material then trickles into the gap until the force of the accumulated material lifts the flap from the point A allowing the material to discharge on to a belt conveyer 5. When the flap is lifted from the point A, it is forced back against the discharge pipe at the point B so that the cycle can be repeated. Bleed holes 6 may be provided in the pipe segment 4 to allow air to enter the space between the pipe segment and the flap 3 and thereby to allow the flap to lift more often adjacent the point A than adjacent the point B.
