Abstract

1,162,797. Vehicle alternators. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 8 Feb., 1967 [1 March, 1966], No. 8843/66. Heading H2A. [Also in Division G3] The end cover 48 of a vehicle alternator carries three contacts as 81a connected via lugs 83 to the stator winding, and arranged to engage connectors as 53a on an insulating body 51 which also carries the rectifiers as 13 and brushes 80 which feed the rotor winding via shaft 44. The body 51 is moved axially into position and then rotated so that connectors 53a pass behind fingers 81a to hold the body on to the end of the machine. There are three connectors as 53a spaced equally round the body and each having three radially directed lugs as 57a. Three mutually insulated plates 61, 63, 65 resting on a shoulder 54 on the body 51, have corresponding lugs 63a, rectifiers as 13 being located between these sets of lugs. The lugs are inclined to the direction of air flow. A printed circuit board 71, secured to the body, carries the circuit and components of a voltage regulator (see Division G3) contact being made between plates 63 and 65 to the board. The power transistor 29 is mounted on a separate heat sink 79 on the board.
