Abstract

1,162,267. Bending tubes. BROOKES (OLDBURY) Ltd. 27 March, 1968 [1 May, 1967], No. 19948/67. Heading B3E. A press for bending tubes and other sections of the kind which includes an hydraulic ram 11 carrying a bending tool 12 which co-operates with a pair of pivoted wing dies 15 mounted on a support 14 is provided with ram control means for determining the lower limit of the stroke of the ram said control means being connected to a wing die so as to be actuable by angular movement thereof. The wing dies are engaged by an hydraulic ram 18 which provides a resistance against which the dies can be turned. The ram control means may consist of a gear-wheel or pulley (not shown) mounted on an extension of one of the wing die shafts 17, said gear-wheel operating an electronic transducer device arranged to actuate hydraulic valve means in the circuit of the ram 11 to halt the ram after the wing dies have turned through a predetermined angle. Alternatively, gear trains may actuate the valve means direct.
