Abstract
1,162,023. Stretching and heat-setting artificial filaments. MASCHINENFABRIK RIETER A.G. 21 Sept., 1966 [22 Sept., 1965], No. 42214/66. Heading B5B. An apparatus for stretching and thereafter heat setting under controlled shrinkage conditions artificial filaments comprises a pair of positively driven feed rolls 2 which feeds a monofilament or multifilament yarn 1 to a snubbing pin 3 and thence to a positively-driven draw roll 4 rotating at a peripheral speed several times that of the feed roll 2. The thread travels in several helical turns 6 round the draw roll 4 and a freely rotatable thread advancing roll 5 driven by the thread. The thread then travels upward from the roll 5 over and in sliding contact with a convex surface 7 of the stationary heating member 17 to a tapering or frusto-conical second thread advancing roll 8 from which it travels downwards over and in sliding contact with the convex surface 9 of the heating member 17 to the roll 5 from which it again travels upwards over the surface 7. The thread continues to travel in this manner and to advance in a series of helical turns 9<SP>1</SP> over the rolls 5 and 8 and the heating member 17. The thread then leaves the smaller diameter end of the conical roll 8 and travels by way of a traversing device 10 to the packaging bobbin 12 driven by the friction roll 13. In travelling over the surfaces 7 and 9 of the heated member 17 in the series of loops 9<SP>1</SP> the thread becomes heated to a predetermined temperature and is thereby caused to contract or relax to an extent determined by the degree of taper of the roll 8 towards its delivery end. Instead of travelling directly from the roll 8 to the wind-up bobbin 12 the thread may be caused to travel from the roll 8 to a second draw roll and a thread advancing roll co-operating therewith and thence to a ring-twisting device.
