Abstract
1,161,411. Polyamides. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 20 Oct., 1966 [1 Nov., 1965], No. 46129/65. Heading C3R. [Also in Division D1] Polyamide filaments are modified by incorporation therein as an integral part of the polymer chain of a minor proportion i.e. not more than 10 molar per cent of structural units in the form of organic radicals each containing one or more anionic groups in the form of their metal salts e.g. alkali metal salts of sulphinate, phosphonate, phosphinate and sulphonic acid groups, these groups may be present in chain terminators or in di-functional compounds. (I) Suitable compounds for introducing these groups are sodium-3-carboxy benzene sulphonate, sodium 3-carboxy-6-methylbenzene sulphonate, di-sodium-1-carboxybenzene-3,5-disulphonate, di-sodium 4-methyl-1-carboxybenzene- 3,5-disulphonate, bis(4-sodiosulphophenyl)propionic acid, 2,2-bis(4-sodiosulphophenyl)propionic acid, sodium 3,5-dicarboxybenzene sulphonate, sodium 2,5-dicarboxybenzene sulphonate, di-sodium-1,4-dicarboxybenzene-2,6- disulphonate, and di-sodium 1,4-dimethyl 2,5- dicarboxybenzene-3,6-disulphonate. In specific examples hexamethylenediammonium adipate is reacted with (A) sodium-3- carboxy-6-methyl benzene sulphonate, (B) disodium 4-methyl-1-carboxy-benzene-3,5-disulphonate, (C) sodium 3,5-dicarboxybenzene sulphonate. Nylon 66 salt was treated with sodium 2-carboxyethyl phosphonate and TiO 2 in an autoclave. (Ex. E).
