Abstract

1,161,113. Dyeing or printing polyesters and cellulose triacetate. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 5 April, 1967 [12 May, 1966], No. 21074/66. Heading D1B. Textile materials of polyesters or cellulose triacetate which may be blended with other materials are dyed or printed using an aqueous solution containing an organic sulphur compound which carries a >C=S or -SH group which behaves through tautomerism due to the presence of an α:#-unsaturated system as a >C=S group, or a disulphide derived therefrom by oxidation, and one or more dyes of formula D-(-X.S.SO 3 M) n wherein D is a dye radical free from acidic water-solubilising groups, M is an alkali metal atom, n is an integer from 1 to 8, and X is a direct link or a -CH 2 -, -CH 2 NHCH 2 CH 2 -, -NHCO (CH 2 -)- n , -SO 2 CH 2 CH 2 -, -OCH 2 CHOHCH 2 -, -CONHCH 2 CH 2 - or -NHCH 2 CHOHCH 2 - group, wherein p is 1 or 2, R is H or alkyl which may be substituted and wherein each of the X.S.SO 3 M groups is directly attached to a C atom of an aryl ring in D. The sulphur compound may e.g. be thiourea, 2-mercapto-benzthiazole or 2:2'-dithiobisbenzthiazole and the dyestuff radical D is preferably a radical of a water-insoluble dyestuff of the azo, anthraquinone, acridone, phenazine, dioxazine, diphenylmethane, triphenylmethane, nitro phthalocyanine, pyranthrone, dibenzanthrone, is odibenzanthrone or a cedianthrone series. The dyebath or paste may also contain dispersing agents, thickening agents urea, sodium, m-nitrabenzenesulphonate, thiodiglycol and alkaline agents such as sodium carbonate or bicarbonate.
