Abstract
1,160,942. Waveguides. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGS G.m.b.H. 25 Jan., 1968 [1 Feb., 1967], No. 3914/68. Heading H1W. The cross-section of a corrugated waveguide is given by the equation The curve is based upon the Oval of Cassini. The co-ordinates of the foci F 1 , F 2 are (Œc, 0) and k is chosen such that c < k < c#2. The distance d is between 10% and 70% of the greatest width b. The waveguide is helically corrugated with approximately sinusoidal corrugations, the troughs having greater curvature than the peaks and the depth of the corrugations being less than a/5 (a is the width of the guide). The pitch of the corrugations lies between #/10 and #/4 (where # is the average free-space wavelength in the transmitted range) and the pitch angle is about 10 degrees. The waveguide may be made by welding a corrugated tube along a longitudinal seam.
