Abstract

1,160,085. Tablets. E. R. SQUIBB & SONS. Inc. 26 Sept., 1966 [23 Oct., 1965], No. 42890/66. Heading A5B [Also in Division C3] Tablets comprise spheroidal pharmaceutically active pellets and a matrix containing granulated microcrystalline cellulose both having particle size ranges of 149 to 600 microns. The spheroidal pellets, which may contain water-insoluble waxes, are present in the matrix in a proportion of 10 to 60% by weight. The pharmaceutically active ingredient exemplified is diethylpropion hydrochloride. The tablets may include an additional granulated pharmaceutically active or inactive substance having a particle size range of 149 to 600 microns, e.g. potassium bitartrate, beta alanine, acetyl para-aminophenol, salicylamide or acetophenone. The tablets may contain a binder (e.g. polyvinyl alcohol, methyl or ethyl cellulose), a disintegrant (such as guar gum, karaya gum, carriageenis or alginates), a lubricant (such as talc, kaolin or magnesium stearate), and may be coated, e.g. with sugar, film or press coatings.
