Abstract

115,949. Jackson, W. J. Mellersh-, (Rosch Magneto Co.). July 6, 1917. Magneto-electric machines.-A multipolar magneto-electric machine for ignition purposes comprises a number of series of alternately reversed bar magnets 1, II, III, Fig. 3, of arcuate form connected to pole-pieces 8, 8<1>, the magnets of one series overlapping the magnets of the other series. The series of magnets are so arranged as to produce pole-pieces of alternate polarity and are magnetically insulated from each other. The ends of the magnets are secured to the pole-pieces by bolts 11 and are separated from each other by a space 7, 7', a corresponding recess being also formed in the rear faces of the pole-pieces. The pole-pieces are also cut away where they pass under the magnets of other series. The armature is formed with outwardly projecting poles wound with primary and secondary coils 4, 5. An interrupter, rotating with the armature and operated by stationary cams 16, is included in the primary circuit The secondary circuit, is connected between two brushes 19, 19<1>, Fig. 1, bearing on contacts 20, 20<1> connected to the sparking-plugs.
