Abstract
1,159,007. Dressing grinding wheels. IMPREGNATED DIAMOND PRODUCTS Ltd. 18 Oct., 1967 [22 July, 1966], No. 32955/66. Heading B3D. A dressing tool comprises a rotor 20, Fig. 3, carrying a series of detachable abrasive blocks 24 which have surfaces remote from the axis of the rotor, radially equidistant therefrom to form the dressing surface of the tool, and are mounted on metal inserts having spigots engaging cylindrical bores formed in the periphery of the rotor. In use, the tool 16, Fig. 1, is disposed on an axis 17 with the lower edge of its dressing surface engaging the grinding wheel and is controlled by a cam 18 and template 19 to dress the edge and part of each end face of the grinding wheel, the tool being positively rotated. The abrasive blocks consist of diamonds in a tungsten carbide matrix carried by steel inserts 23 having spigots received in bores in a brass rotor 20. In one arrangement, two rotors are supplied, one having the bores radial to the core and in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the core, and the other having radial bores inclined to the perpendicular plane. Initially, the inserts are mounted in the first rotor and used until the abrasive surfaces have worn to line 30, Fig. 6a. Thereafter, the inserts are removed from the first rotor, inverted, and inserted in the inclined bores of the second rotor and used until the abrasive surfaces have worn to line 31, Fig. 6b, the process being continued until the blocks have worn away. In another embodiment, the abrasive blocks are mounted in an inclined position on the spigots. In a further embodiment, the radial bores in the core are alternately in the perpendicular plane and inclined thereto. The inserts are positioned in the bores by adjustable screws 27, Fig. 5, in the bottom of the bores and retained therein by screws 28.
