Abstract

1,158,733. Coating surface. CELANESE COATINGS CO. 14 Dec, 1966 [27 Dec., 1965], No. 55917/66. Heading B2K. [Also in Division C3] Substrates e.g. concrete blocks and floors and stepping stones are coated with paints which comprise aqueous emulsions of copolymers of vinyl acetate, or a mixture of vinyl monocarboxylic acid esters containing more than 50 weight per cent of vinyl acetate, a flexibilising monomer which is an alkyl ester of an α, #-ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid or a dialkyl ester of an α, #-ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, each alkyl component(s) of the ester containing 4 to 18 carbon atoms, a monovinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and, if desired, an α, #- ethylenically unsaturated nitrile. The percentage weights of monomers used, based on the total monomer weight, is 40 to 70 vinyl acetate, 10 to 20 flexibilising monomer, 20 to 30 monovinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and 0 to 10 nitrile.
