Abstract

1,158,573. Testing moisture content. LAMBERT'S (LANCASTER) Ltd. Aug. 10, 1966 [Feb. 16, 1966], No. 6751/66. Heading G1S. A device for determining the presence of moisture in soil comprises an elongate member 10 of light transmitting material formed at one end with a foot 12 having a bottom light reflecting surface 13 adapted for location on the soil and a sloping viewing surface 14 with a curved light diffusing heal surface 15 behind the viewing surface. The elongate member 10 is in the form of a transparent rod of clear acrylic resin or polystyrene. In use when the bottom surface 13 is pressed firmly on the soil 16 Fig. 1 (not shown) the amount of light reflected from the bottom surface is dependent on the moisture content of the soil i.e. if a large dark patch is visible the soil is wet, several dark patches indicate dampness and if no dark patches are visible the soil is dry.
