Abstract

1,152,422. Road markers. HOWARD CLAYTON-WRIGHT Ltd. 5 May, 1967 [6 May, 1966], No. 20002/66. Heading E1G [Also in Division G2] A reflex reflective road marker 10, includes a portion 11 formed from a light transmitting synthetic plastics material, the front surface thereof being formed to provide at least one protruberance 26 each of which constitutes a lens formation which is associated with a light reflective surface 20 spaced away therefrom, the material of the portion 11 being formed to provide a cavity between a protruberance and its associated reflective surface. As shown, the portion 11 and a similar portion 13 are secured to a central portion 12 by ultra-sonic welding to form a square marker, the surface 20 being rendered light reflective by deposition of a thin layer of aluminium. A small amount of moisture absorbant, such as silicagel, is introduced into the cavity before welding. The portions 11, 12, 13 are preferably made from cellulose acetate butyrate. An epoxy resin or a pin (not shown) may be used to secure the marker to a surface. In the first case, the resin uses up a passage 14 into a countersunk part 16, and a number of undercuts may be provided on surface 17 to secure the marker firmly. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), a thin coloured portion (31) is interposed between the portions (11), (12).
