Abstract

1,158,433. Multi-colour electro-photography. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. July 8, 1966 [July 16, 1965], No.30883/66. Heading G2H. Multi-colour images are prepared by imagewise exposing a transparent film, comprising a layer containing a photo-conductor or a photo-ionizable compound, through a filter to produce an image pattern thereon composed of small areas of primary coloured light, and developing the image thus formed so that the thickness of deposition varies in accordance with the pattern of stresses in the film produced by exposure. The transparency may be viewed with white light using the filter used to prepare the image. When a photo-conductor is used, the recording medium is electrostatically charged before exposure, and when a photoionizable material (e.g. iodoform in a resin) is used, either (i) the medium is electrostatically charged after exposure or (ii) the development is effected with an electrical potential applied across the transparent conductive layer and an electrode positioned adjacent the photo-ionizable layer. The film preferably comprises a support, a conductive layer and the photo-sensitive layer. The filter may be a screen composed of a plurality of small red, green and blue areas which is integral with the film, or a separate filter having a red, a blue and a green area, in which case the recording medium has a lenticular screen on its surface.
