Abstract

1,158,346. Hair conditioner. CLAIROL Inc. 12 Aug., 1966 [27 Sept., 1965], No. 36287/66. Heading A5B. [Also in Division C3] A process for reconditioning damaged hair comprises polymerising - the hair a watersoluble polymerisable monomeric ethylenic compound having at least one acid group adjacent to an ethylenic carbon atom or salt thereof and bridging the polymeric chains so formed - the hair with an ionic bridging agent that reduces the water solubility of the polymeric chains. A composition for this process comprises the monomeric compound, a polymerisation catalyst and an ionic bridging agent. The hair may be treated with a swelling agent to facilitate the entrance of the monomeric compound. Polymerisation may be induced by the use of heat.
