Abstract

1,158,334. Polymer blends. MONSANTO CO. 2 Sept., 1966 [3 Sept., 1965], No. 39373/66. Headings C3G and C3P. A polymer blend comprises a diene rubber, an interpolymer of a monovinylidene aromatic hydrogen with an unsaturated nitrile, and a triglyceride. The said polymers may be present in part as a graft polymer with the diene rubber as substrate and the interpolymer as superstrate. The triglyceride is an ester of glycerol and a saturated or unsaturated acid, e.g. linoleic, oleic, licanic, ricinoleic, linolenic and erucic acids, contained in natural oils. Colloidal silica aerogel may be included in the composition. In examples a latex of a butadiene-styrene copolymer grafted with styrene and acrylonitrile is blended with a latex of a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer and the polymers are co-coagulated from the mixed latices. The coagulum is then extrusion blended with beads of a styreneacrylonitrile copolymer and corn, linseed, tung, oiticica, safflower, soybean, rapeseed, castor, cottonseed or olive oil.
